Climate disaster victims are rebuilding using prefab homes from boxy to bespoke

Jason and Colleen Warnesky are among the dozens of families in Altadena, Calif., who have opted to rebuild with manufactured homes, following the 2025 Eaton Fire. The couple told NPR they were partially movtivated to go with a prefabricated home by safety concerns. Wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes and floods fueled by manmade climate change are changing the housing industry. That’s because people seeking to rebuild in disaster-prone regions are turning away from stick-builds and embracing prefabricated homes that can withstand fire and extreme weather.
